Pepper House
Sitting on a pier and beam foundation, the 1,400 square foot house is divided into two spaces; one public (living dining and kitchen), one private (master bedroom and bath), under a single shed roof separated by a dog trot, its vernacular inspiration. An exterior wall is designed to open during warmer months to capture cooling breezes and to close with large sliding barn doors hung from overhead tracks during inclement or cold weather. So air flow through the single story house is not compromised and to accommodate visiting guests, portions of the public space can be divided by movable walls as needed to create sleeping areas. A large deck cantilevers into the landscape. |
